Dancing Through Time - celebrating dance at Clarendon Chambers

Between August and December 2023, our team of practitioners working on a very special heritage-based project in Nottingham, got stuck into some fascinating research and public consultation surrounding the legacy of dance at historical building, Clarendon Chambers in Nottingham City centre.

‘Dancing Through Time’, kindly supported by The National Lottery Heritage Fund, celebrates the life and legacy of Miss Nora Morrison MBE, who dedicated her life to teaching dance to students of all ages. In her dance studios, including the dane studio at Clarendon Chambers, Miss Morrison inspired and guided hundreds of budding dance enthusiasts on their lifelong journeys of passion for dance.

During the project research period and throughout the filming phase, we had the pleasure of hearing many positive stories of praise for Miss Morrison and how she created and maintained a sense of community, belonging and pride amongst everyone who passed through her door.

Watch our Dancing Through Time project documentary below, thoughtfully produced by Film Producer, Andre Bonsor, and researched and curated by local historian, Mo Cooper.

We would love to further explore stories of dance at Clarendon Chambers in a future project. Public consultation has shown us there are many more stories to be told!

A huge thank you to The National Lottery Heritage Fund for supporting our project in Nottingham. We thoroughly enjoyed the process and we know the public enjoyed engaging with heritage in their own city of Nottingham also.

The project would not have been possible without the support and previous research of the Grant family, who share a strong bond with Morrisons School of Dance and Miss Morrison. Thanks to all members of the family for sharing their extensive collection of online links, newspaper cuttings and treasured memories.

Members of all families who came forward to share their stories and memorabilia of attending Morrisons School of Dance contributed a wealth of dear memories and information to developing the project material, which helped us to piece together our research and final project documentary. A huge thank you to everyone involved. The completion of the project truly was a community effort!
